Why is heat required during a deep conditioning treatment?

Applying heat to the hair during a deep conditioning treatment makes the hair cuticles that cover the outer layer of your hair, open up, allowing the conditioner to deeply penetrate and nourish the inner hair shaft. After the treatment is washed off, the cuticles close up, locking the moisture in.
